Diving Scooter

This diving scooter was originally inspired by the Scuba-Tow, first published in the July, 1974 edition of Popular Mechanics Magazine, and the Scuba-Tow SEL, published in the September, 1981 edition of P.M. Magazine.  Although the design of this scooter is far different than either Scuba-Tow.

This Diving Scooter was my motivator to return to school in 1992 and pursue a career in mechanical design.  I built three prototypes and originally intended to develop the design and sell scooters, but the small market size for such a product convinced me that it was not worth the risk.  Now, 24 years later, I have decided to release the design as "Open Source Hardware".  This means that I am releasing the design to the public; anyone can Click Here to download the SolidWorks® 2015 CAD files, and make, modify or do anything they want with it.  Of course, this must be done at your own risk; diving is inherently dangerous, and this device can add considerably to that danger.  Do Not build a diving scooter unless you understand the circumstances and principles relevant to underwater vehicles, and are willing to take the risks involved yourself.  Additionally, Scuba diving requires a certification and NEVER dive unless you are certified.
